GDPR introduces a duty to appoint a data protection officer (DPO)for any public authority, business or if you carry out certain types of processing activities. DPOs assist to monitor internal compliance, inform and advise on data protection obligations, provide advice regarding Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and act as a contact point for data subjects and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). It is a statutory role. The tasks of a Data Protection Manager differ slightly and largely correspond to those of a Data Protection Officer (DPO).
